Last September the Secretary of Veterans Affairs designated amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) a service-connected disability for all Veterans with 90 days or more of continuous active service in the military. As a result, the VA can now pay disability compensation to Veterans with ALS and survivors of Veterans with ALS who have passed away.NALC Alaska Branches take to the Lanes to Strike out MD!
On November 1, 2009 members of the National Association of Letter Carriers across Alaska and the Nation will join together to “Deliver the Cure” for muscle wasting diseases. Anchorage Local 4319 will hold their Second Annual Bowl-a-Thon to benefit MDA Alaska at Jewel Lake Bowl starting at 10 am. And Fairbanks Local 4491 will join in the fun with their First Annual Bowl-a-Thon at Arctic Bowl started at 1 pm. 2009 Eagle River Garcia’s Lock-Up
Big hearted Jailbirds from the Eagle River area are going behind bars on Wednesday, October 14th to raise money for the Alaska Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association! Jailbirds will be “arrested” at work or will turn themselves in to our jailhouse at Garcia’s and enjoy MDA’s version of “bread and water” for lunch. Their goal is to raise money with other business leaders from the area to send Alaskan children living with a muscle wasting disease to Summer Camp at Birchwood Camp in Chugiak, Alaska. Bail has been set at $1,600. This event will take place from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
